Aesthetic

Someone made the point that youth subculture is dying out in favour of aesthetics born of consumerism. Firstly, I loathe the word aesthetic being used instead of attractive. Things have an aesthetic, they are not aesthetic. Things are aesthetically pleasing, they aren't aesthetic. But, secondly, the person wasn't entirely wrong. I do see some youth subculture still, but it seems to be more about a way of living rather than a rebellion or escape from the common norm, about reliving a past rather than building a now, about curating an existence built for others to see, rather than simply living a life.
