Today I did something I’ve never done before: I watched 2001: A Space Odyssey from beginning to end. I have finally seen the whole thing. The lack of having seen it was creating an embarassing gap in my popular and Kubrickian cultural knowledge that I just had to fill. They showed it on telly tonight. Too bad about the interrupting commercials, but I probably needed the forced break to fill up on snacks. It is amazing how enticing a hypnotising swirl of colours in a man’s eye can be. Oh, and yes, of course I did sing Daisy along with HAL.
