Naming the Other
I love the series Alien Nation. It's a thing I regularly binge. I'd be curious to see an attempted reboot. One thing I've never liked, though, was the erasure of the Tenctonese names, an aggressive aspect of cultural genocide that exists to this day in some countries. There was no seeming attempt to anglicise the Newcomer names, nevermind just accept the names they have. They were given names that would set them up as plot devices, jokes. Another parallel made between the Newcomers and the slaves of the American south, people robbed deliberately of their homes, cultures, identities, and names.
