I was reading something I wrote back in 2007 about a job I now don't remember even applying for. Apparently I turned it down. It was a phone sales job where I'd have been selling health insurance to Americans. I can see why I turned it down. Selling things to people has always been abhorrent to me, interloping, smarmy, and deeply invasive. Watching other people shenanigan their way into another human's pocketbook is equally abhorrent. What was that (tangentially related) saying: "Advertising may be described as the science of arresting human intelligence long enough to get money from it." - Stephen Leacock
Addendum: When I did a search to find out who was the author of that quotation as I couldn't remember, the first search result that came up was a site about harassment laws in Canada. How revoltingly apt.
