An artist's book is a form of art combining text, images, drawings, other pieces of art, and often found objects to create a physical book experience. Artists can express their ideas, thoughts, and experiences in a more personal and intimate manner with such a book.
- they can be made of and use any material you like - paper, cardboard, fabric, metal, wood, ephemera, and found objects
- can include any type of content preferred - prose, poetry, photographs, drawings, collages, maps, and found text, and can be themed around a specific subject, experience, or issues, short stories, poems, diary/journal entries
- can combine photographs and text, drawings, collage, and other forms of art
- can also include newspaper clippings, magazines, old books, maps, musical compositions, lyrics
- use different materials and techniques, focus on a theme or a specific creative technique
- can focus on daily life documentation, thoughts, experiences, travels, dreams, illustrate a narrative, a collection of poems, or essays, a photographic slide show of sorts, responses to other writings or works of art, document the creative process and technique notes
So, while very much like a scrapbook, you can use a book like this to focus on something a bit more curated than simply saving all your finds in one place.
