You will need:
- pressed flowers or leaves
- washi tape
- thin wood slats
- old keys
- small paintings or drawings
- old book/magazine pages
- yarn, knitting needs, crochet hook
- embroidery floss, embroidery needles
- pieces of fabric
- cardstock
- scissors
- a selection of art supplies
- access to a laminator
Do:
- Press flowers or leaves between sheets of wax paper and allow them to dry,
- Create simple designs by layering washi tape on a piece of cardstock or thin wood.
- Paint a design on a thin slice of wood.
- Attach a key to a ribbon, string, or strong elastic to make a bookmark charm.
- Use small pieces of canvas or cardstock to create tiny works of art that can be used as bookmarks.
- Upcycle old book/magazine pages/covers by cutting them to appropriate sizes and decorating them, if desired.
- Crochet or knit a tiny bookmark accessory, such as a single chain or simple tassel, and adding a charm if desired.
- Use fine threads to embroider a piece of cardstock or cloth with patterns, or even a person's name.
Remember:
- Most of these items are going to require lamination to preserve the items and increase sturdiness and longevity.
Notes:
- Don't use items that are too bulky, because that could cause damage to the book.
- Be careful when adding dangling items or charms, that they can't be easily ripped off, or cause damage when inside a bag.
- Don't use anything that could lead to a security risk or identity theft, like old credit cards or ID badges.
