You will need:
- images to work with (magazines are easy sources)
- multiple versions of the images (optional)
- scissors or X-Acto knife
- a substrate - mixed media paper, poster board, watercolour paper, etc.
- decorative papers or other images (optional)
- drawing and painting media of choice (optional)
Do:
- Carefully slice pieces out of an image.
- Choose various shapes and areas.
- Place the image on a previously chosen substrate - plain or decorated.
- If decorated, that will show through - if plain, you can decorate the cut out areas.
- Using a media of choice, draw, write, or doodle into the cut out area.
- You can choose not to decorate the areas, or use a solid colour.
Do:
- Cut images apart and re-arrange them to create a montage.
- Use several versions of the same image.
- Cut out different parts.
- Layer them so the cut outs reveal different parts of the images beneath.
Do:
- You could cut out the same or similar parts of each image.
- Layer them to make a reverse decoupage.
- Create a proper-style decoupage using multiple copies of the same image and layering them.
