Instead of putting your photograph in a traditional frame, you could mount it on a backing board of some kind, something of colour or patterned even, and ring the edges of the image with various kinds of ephemera - buttons, beads, various embellishments, keys, pressed flowers, your own doodles or patterns, etc.
