You will need:
- old t-shirt
- scissors
- clips
- cardboard
- dowel (optional)
- fabric stiffener (like fusible interfacing) (optional)
- decorative items (optional)
- frame (optional)
Do:
- Cut out the images from the front/back of the t-shirt.
- Use the clips to attach the pieces to cardboard or canvas, aligning them to your taste.
- Add decorative items (if you like) - embroidery, appliques, iron ons, beads, etc.
- Trim the edges of the cardboard to create a clean edge.
- Attach a string or a dowel to the top so it can be easily hung.
- Alternatively, you can frame the piece in a regular frame.
Notes:
- Consider adding a backing fabric to the t-shirt pieces to prevent them from fraying and to add stabilisation.
- You can add applique, iron ons, etc. to any spots in the fabric that have holes you want to cover.
- Treat the cardboard with something museum quality before you put fabric on it, something acid-free like a gel medium, as well as museum quality mat board, to help prevent deterioration or discolouration of the fabric.
- Avoid using adhesives, pins, or other attaching methods that can damage the fabric.
- If it doesn't matter that the edges of the cloth may discolour due to an adhesive, you could use a hot glue gun to tack down the edges of the material that are going to be under a framing mat.
