Brawlers, Bawlers, and Bastards (Orphans)

A three-part, so to speak, Tom Waits recording released last year, which I listened to for the first time yesterday in its entirety. It is comprised of rare tracks, but mostly new material. I am captivated; but, that is no surprise.

Ever since that first murky pub full of smoke (back when one could still smoke in pubs) near closing time on some weekend night more years ago than I care to recall - where it wafted out from between the people and caught me, I’ve been hooked. I could not, in any fashion, explain to you why - I just am. Maybe I just love things that remind me of smokey, 4 a.m., too much whiskey, too many cigarettes, somewhat divey establishments where people are tucked into corners intimate with their pints or only with each other. He is quirky, lurking, and amusing.
