Gifts

Every time I watch The Breakfast Club I think of my aunt and uncle.
When I was about 17 they had asked me to babysit one day and rented the movie for me to watch. They had very little money, so it was kind of them to do that. What was kinder, though, more touching, and is still one of the nicest gifts I ever got for Christmas, was that as a thank-you they gave me a large bottle of Coca Cola and a Chef Boyardee home pizza mix. My two favourite things at the time.
Life is simple pleasures, and simple gifts. You can touch somebody with a little thoughtfulness sometimes, more than you'll ever touch them with a grand gesture. If you think your tiny things go unnoticed, they don't. Think about where a gift comes from, not necessarily where it's going.
I still get a little weepy thinking about it, even thirty years on.
