I hate the term "middle class". I really, really hate it

You know what I don’t care about being a part of? The middle class.

I don’t need what that phrase conjures up, other than enough money to keep myself decently. Note I said "enough", not a house, not a white picket fence, 2.5 children, a car. None of that. None of that manicured lawn in the ‘burbs bull. It’s not the only thing to aspire to, not the only game in town, and not the most valuable life path. The continued use of that phrase conjures up classism and further demoralises and devalues those who are not part of this so-called middle class.

Yet, our current federal government talks about it ad nauseam. Ad Nauseam. It is antiquated, outmoded thinking that should have died out decades ago. Why don’t you ditch the classist labelling and adopt something that focuses on the economics without the class taint? How about "economically viable jobs", "economically sustainable jobs", "sustaining wage"? Something other than middle class.

Every time someone says it I get more and more knee-jerk about how much I loathe the term.

There’s nothing wrong with wanting a house, a car, or the "burbs, but we need to eradicate out of our culture the idea that if that’s not where you are in life then there’s something wrong with you or you aren’t valuable.
