Say-so

Just having heard Neil Young's Southern Man on the radio, reminds me that After The Goldrush is one of the only two albums I've ever bought totally on the recommendation of another person. Neil I was, of course, familiar with - and I already liked his stuff. I didn't figure I'd be disappointed, and I wasn't. Thanks go to my uncle Bernie for that one.

The other album was Nine Inch Nails' Pretty Hate Machine. In this instance things were a bit different. I'd never heard NIN before I bought that, and I was going totally on Diane's say-so. I'd asked her to tell me something I hadn't heard, because I felt like buying some new music. Again, I was not at all disappointed.

Ever buy anything totally on the recommendation of another person, perhaps even without ever having heard the artist in question before that time?

I should point out that it's almost completely impossible to grow up within the confines of Canada and not have heard of Neil Young. I figure that if I'd made it past age 10 without ever hearing any, they should have revoked my Canadian citizenship.
