If you could unleash a power upon the world, but the power had to be defined by one word (love, hate, joy, etc), what would it be?
It's hard to choose between the two, but either understanding or acceptance, though I guess those two somehow walk hand in hand. Strong emotions cloud clear judgement, cloud thinking, cloud understanding, and there is a monumental lack of communication on this planet, a monumental lack of people who understand and accept the motivations, needs, wants, and desires of others. I figure that if we spent more time trying to understand each other, trying to accept things rather than squeezing them into spaces they weren't meant to be in, that living would go along a hell of a lot more smoothly. I know it's cliche, but there's a lot to be said for trying to walk a mile in the shoes of another - something that's also sadly lacking in a world that would prefer, it seems, to react, condemn, judge, ignore, dispose of, etc. If we understood and accepted, we would feel less contention, less friction, less conflict, both between others, and within ourselves. Understanding the why of something, understanding how a thing came to be, lets us understand the thing itself, helps us to see patterns both good and bad, big and small, patterns that help us learn, have knowledge, come to greater understanding. Looking at the surface of something normally isn't any sort of effective way of understanding it. No surface tells the whole story, ever, neither with politics, history, or people.
