- Uluru - because it is the dreaming, because it is the centre of all things.
- Death Valley, California - because it's breathtakingly gorgeous.
- Sydney, AU - for the fireworks on New Year's Eve, and for friends.
- Bourbon St, New Orleans - for cheap whiskey and the Tom Waits feeling, and Mardi Gras.
- Blarney Castle, Ireland - because I, too, wish to increase my gift of gab.
- Hermitage, Russia - because it is one of the greatest stores of earthly artistic treasure ever.
- Arctic Circle - just because.
- Fraser Castle, Lovatt, Scotland - familial roots, and all that.
- Smithsonian Institute, USA - because it, too, is a treasure trove.
It's hard to choose Things I'd Like to Do/See Before I Shuffle Loose This Mortal Coil, because I've already been fortunate to do so much. I've:
- driven a racecar
- seen Stonehenge
- stood under Big Ben as it chimed
- stood on the Prime Meridian
- touched the "Venus" de Milo
- seen the Rosetta Stone
- seen the Arc de Triomphe, the Eiffel Tower, and the Louvre
- been up to the top of St. Paul's Cathedral
- seen a play at The Globe
- seen U2, The Buzzcocks, The Ramones, The Smashing Pumpkins, and will see The Pixies
- seen an albino peacock
- been to Monaco
- been to Hungary
- seen the Mona Lisa and the Winged Victory
- ridden a double-decker bus in London
- been to St. Alban's
- been to Chatsworth House (fucking tulip vases)
- been to Harrod's (if I'd been rich, the glass shop would be barren)
- been to Cuba
- been to Montreal
- ridden a horse
- sung in a choir
- seen the Ode to Joy performed
And so much more. I think what I want from life now are much simpler things.
It's good for me to be reminded of these things now and then; it reminds me that life has been fairly sweet for all its upsets.
