Nosferatu

I was just watching Nosferatu, a fabulous silent film in which Max Schreck plays one of the most chilling vampires I've ever seen. I've always liked this movie, mainly because of him and his portrayal.

What makes this particular version interesting, is its score. Usually they employ classical or light modern music in silent films, Giorgio Moroder's version of Metropolis being a notable - and fabulous - exception to the rule. The entire score of this version of Nosferatu is not only modern, it also includes lyrics, and was done by Type O Negative.

It's suited so well what I've watched of the film so far. I'm really impressed with the meshing. One note, though, the music is very heavy in parts, so may not suit all moods or states of wakefulness.

And it has a nice little intro speech from David Carradine - and that's never a bad thing.

A silent film can be seriously hurt by a bad score, as this film was the last time I saw it on television; so it's nice to see a version where the music is not only acceptable, but is more than - is actually good.
