I remember playing in mud as a child, feeling the squishy, wet thickness between my toes and fingers. It was oddly soothing to dig into it. How things change as we get older, how much time we spend avoiding the things we did as children, things that brought us so much simple joy. I would like to climb a tree again, run through sprinklers, splash in puddles, pile up leaves only to mess them by running through them. I'd like to be as unbound now as I was when I was little, before life started making other plans for me.
