Woolworth's was one of those old-style department stores, with a "notions" department, an upstairs and a downstairs, and a diner-like lunch counter. We used to have one here, in the downtown, but it went out of business years ago. It saddens me, thinking of it; it was one of those happy childhood memories. Whenever we had to go see Mr. Sanger (who was the gentleman who made my contact lenses), my grandmother would take me to Woolworth's for a treat, and she'd always buy me one of those writing practice books that I had a yen for as a child.
