There are those of us who simply do not grok maths in their numerical form. I claim membership to the club of folks who just can't do maths. Trust me, I've tried, it's a seriously lost cause. However, that doesn' stop me from having a liking for maths, numbers, and what one can do with them. I like the things numbers can produce. I have a liking for gematria, fractals, Klein bottles, Mandelbrot sets, Peano curves, Borromean rings, and other such mathematical constructs. What I like is the aesthetics of numbers, the art one can create with them, the patterns that can be produced. For years I've been trying to figure out a way of putting this, and it struck me just this evening when talking with a friend, that the perfect word is maesthematician. One who appreciates the aesthetics of math, without necessarily being able to comprehend the numerics.
