Here, as promised last New Year's, is a list of the films I watched in 2005. I did not count the times I watched things more than once, I may have forgotten to add a couple.

  • Grease (It's good weekend afternoon filler.)
  • Royal Wedding (Much as I adore old Hollywood musicals, Fred Astaire really was an ugly little spider of a man.)
  • Dr. No (Because there is nothing better than a pre-Octopussy Bond flick.)
  • The Breakfast Club (I remember once someone bitching about this film, saying it was far too simplistic, that the philosophy was too easy, etc. And I'm thinking, uh, they're teenagers, were you expecting Kierkegard or something?)
  • Sixteen Candles (Never liked this movie much.)
  • Apocalypse Now, redux (Let us not attempt to contemplate how many substances were abused during the making of this film. Dated in some eyes, it's still astounding. Even the making-of film "Heart of Darkness" is astounding.)
  • Anna and the King (No, not that one. That's " the King and I". This is the one with Jodie Foster, and it's pretty good.)
  • The Day the Earth Stood Still (Always a classic and favourite.)
  • Resevoir Dogs (One of my favourite senseless violence films.)
  • Chitty Chitty Bang Bang (Toot sweets, toot sweets, the candy you whistle, the whistle you eat.)
  • Back to the Future II (What a horrible piece of shit. Must find a better class of background noise.)
  • From Russia With Love
  • LoTR: Two Towers
  • Super Size Me (Lordy he looked like shit by the end of that month.)
  • LoTR: The Return of the King
  • The Ripper (Of course the story of Jack the Ripper needs to have a love story subplot. Gosh it fits so well. Snort.)
  • G.I. Jane (I still need to find a better class of background noise. Demi Moore is a bitch.)
  • Ladyhawke (It's not a terribly good movie at the best of times, but lordy does that Alan Parsons Project soundtrack ever make it almost unbearable. Thank ghu for Rutger Hauer, mrow.)
  • Haven (Interesting, but I so dislike it when they take a serious situation and turn it into tv-movie-of-the-week schlock.)
  • Star Trek IV: The Voyage Home (Save the whales!)
  • Miss Congeniality (Horrible piece of crap. Sandra Bullock is just about one of the worst actors I've ever seen. She's even more wooden and flat than Keanu Reeves - if that's possible.)
  • Divine Secrets of the Ya Ya Sisterhood (Yeah yeah, family secrets, yadda yadda, grrl power, blah blah.)
  • Thunderball
  • Ghost World
  • The Defiant Ones
  • Introducing Dorothy Dandridge (I wonder if Otto Preminger really was that much of a dirtbag.)
  • The Bourne Identity (Best film of it's type I've seen in years. Action without being overdone.)
  • The Bourne Supremacy (Ditto, but they could have done without the cliche blonde female doing the cliche angry American police captain routine. Very cheap, that.)
  • The Believer (Astounding. Ryan Gosling was incredible.)
  • The Desert Fox (I have a soft spot for Rommel.)
  • Dog Day Afternoon (Attica! Attica!)
  • Ben Hur
  • A Raisin in the Sun
  • Desperately Seeking Susan (Good weekend afternoon time-filler.)
  • The Atomic Cafe ("We Americans are constructive, not destructive; so let us build the bomb." Duck and cover!)
  • Gilda
  • You Only Live Twice (Darling, I give you very best duck.)
  • Sleepless In Seattle
  • Only You
  • Ever After
  • Mad Love (Ya know, I really don't like Drew Barrymore.)
  • On Her Majesty's Secret Service
  • Madeline
  • You've Got Mail
  • Dogma
  • Diamonds Are Forever
  • Angels in the Outfield
  • Sense and Sensibility
  • First Shot (Technically I could lie and not admit that I had this sort of garbage on, and none of you would be any the wiser; but I can't even cheat at a game of solitaire, so...)
  • Killer Tomatoes Strike Back (It's less funny when they have teeth.)
  • Live and Let Die
  • A Life Less Ordinary
  • Little Women (Wynona Rider version; sadly disappointing; then again, I've never truly liked any version of it I've seen.)
  • The Princess Diaries 2 (What a disappointing follow-up to the first film, not that the first one was spectacular or anything.)
  • Major League 2
  • Flashdance (Yes, I'm admitting to it. Gawd that movie sucks.)
  • The Breakfast Club
  • Singin" in The Rain (Why I've got more money than Calvin Coolidge, put together!)
  • Ferris Bueller's Day Off
  • Major League
  • Pride and Prejudice (Colin Firth/Jennifer Ehle: one of the best adaptations of the book I've ever seen.)
  • Escape From Alcatraz (And the mystery remains: Did they get away?)
  • Legally Blonde (Background noise, okay? Lordy how I hate the formula they use for action in movies like this.)
  • A Man For All Seasons
  • Pump Up The Volume
  • Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory
  • Blast From the Past
  • Cube
  • The Name of the Rose
  • Cube Zero
  • Dune
  • Sleepless In Seattle
  • A Few Good Men
  • It Came From Hollywood
  • Death of a Princess (No, not that one; there are others. Interesting docudrama on the investigation of a journalist into the execution of a Saudi princess for committing adultery.)
  • Silk Stockings
  • When Harry Met Sally (Ugh, why do I allow myself to expose myself to this stuff, even as background noise.)
  • Airplane!
  • Star Trek V
  • Swing Shift
  • Pay It Forward (Yes, yes, I got weepy.)
  • Robin Hood (The only reason I watch this movie, in fact, the only reason anyone should watch this movie, is for Alan Rickman. Rowr.)
  • Return of the Jedi (Why do I subject myself to this crap?)
  • Logan's Run
  • Witness (When Harrison Ford was still hot.)
  • Vanity Fair (Lordy but I disliked the book this was based on.)
  • Planet of the Apes (The new version.)
  • Star Wars: Attack of the Clones (One of the most plotless movies I've ever seen.)
  • Highlander: Endgame (Not too full of plot either.)
  • Stepmom (Only because I love Susan Sarandon.)
  • Star Trek: Insurrection (I keep forgetting how crappy this movie is.)
  • Pretty Woman (Weekend trash.)
  • Pulp Fiction
  • The Garnet Princess
  • In the Army Now (There is no sun!)
  • Mary Poppins
  • Enemy Mine
  • Alien Nation (Shit head!)
  • Like Water For Chocolate
  • The Thomas Crown Affair (Brosnan version. Acceptable, but not stellar.)
  • Saw (Nothing's impressed me that much in years.)
  • Save the Last Dance (I was studying. It was background noise.)
  • Star Trek II: The Wrath of Khan (Khaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaan!)
  • Blast From the Past (What a goofy movie, and not really in all that good a way.)
  • Simply Irresistible (I've seen "Like Water For Chocolate", and apparently they did also.)
  • Shakespeare In Love
  • Good Will Hunting
  • Lady Chatterley (Ken Russell version)
  • Son-In-Law
  • Coyote Ugly
  • The Princess Diaries
  • Star Trek III: The Search for Spock
  • Waterworld
  • Jumpin"Jack Flash
  • North by Northwest
  • Escape From the Planet of the Apes
  • Pink Floyd: Live at Pompeii
  • Frankenstein Unbound (Caligula!)
  • Star Wars: The Phantom Menace (Right. Crap. Plotless horror.)
  • Operation Petticoat
  • The Handmaid's Tale (Read the book. It's better.)
  • The Hebrew Hammer (Shalom, motherfucker!)
  • A Room With A View (I think Daniel Day Lewis as he appears in this film, is about the last sort of man I'd ever go after. What a prissy, pansy bastard.)
  • Donnie Darko
  • Party Girl (What an empty movie.)
  • Molly
  • Mrs. Miniver
  • Blazing Saddles
  • The American President (This movie sucks me in every time, and I really have no frigging clue why.)
  • The Bridge On the River Kwai (Peerless.)
  • Highlander
  • Rock'n'Roll High School (I'm hip, daddy-o. I'm into the Ramones.)
  • Gentlemen Prefer Blondes (Pray scat.)
  • Bowling For Columbine (I'll never be able to watch a Heston film again.)
  • School's Out (Like I needed another hint that Joey Jeremiah is a dirtbag, a not very imaginative one, no less. Apparently he goes on to become a used car salesman - colour me completely non-shocked by that.)
  • Star Trek: First Contact (Geez, you'd think they could have at least used the Steppenwolf version of "Magic Carpet Ride".)
  • An Affair to Remember (Chicks dig this one. I like it because I like Cary Grant's delivery, always have.)
  • New Police Story (Gotta love Jackie Chan.)
  • Drumline
  • Bridget Jones's Diary (Given a choice, there isn't one. Colin Firth wins hands down and by a landslide.)
  • Easy Rider (And once again we have two or so hours of Dennis Hopper on drugs.)
  • Stargate
  • Roman Holiday (Mrow. Gregory Peck.)
  • Great Balls of Fire
  • Legally Blonde 2 (It's capitol Barbie!)
  • Monty Python: Holy Grail
  • Starship Troopers (I don't need to detail how much better the book was, do I? Didn't think so.)
  • Agnes of God
  • Guess Who's Coming to Dinner
  • This Is Spinal Tap (Lick my love pump!)
  • Contact (An astronomer out standing by her VLA.)
  • There's Something About Mary (If there was a buzz about this film which centred on how good it was, don't tell me, "cause then it'll mean one less thing for me to disagree with in life.)
  • Hackers (Gibson system? Mr. Babbage? Ha ha ha! This movie makes me giggle with its ridiculous techtalk and flashy graphics. Yes, it's all really like that - no, really, honest ossifer.)
  • Westworld
  • The Infiltrator
  • An Officer and a Gentleman
  • The Wizard of Oz
  • Sister Act
  • Harry Potter / Chamber of Secrets
  • Psycho (Yes mother, it's me.)
  • A Walk to Remember (There's always room for sweet moralising, bad dialogue, and a plot you can see coming a mile away, right?)
  • Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy (Life, don't talk to me about life.)
  • Threesome
  • Fame
  • The Swimmer
