This evening I witnessed one of the most bizarrely disconcerting things I've ever seen.
It was my friend's hen night, so instead of doing something vulgar, we went to an Asian style karaoke bar. Unlike North American style, you get a private room for your group. The selection of English songs was not huge, but it sure was a bit weird. Five different versions of Crazy, and not one of them was Patsy Cline. We drink, we sing, we dance around, we have fun.
But I've got to tell you, someone needs to do a little something about the videos that show with which songs, because there's nothing weirder than a room full of chicks singing along to Girls Just Want to Have Fun, and the videos playing along are all of people crying, getting shot, and going to war. I've got a broad definition of fun, but I was always told war was hell. It didn't get any less odd - no matter what we sang, there was a video of someone crying, someone getting into a rather nasty skateboard accident, slapping, murder, gunshots. Didn't seem to matter how happy we were - the videos were not.
Asian style karaoke for the win, by the way. Far more fun than a bar full of drunken strangers singing Delta Dawn and Freebird.
