I'm very much a devotee of the "If you don't want an answer, don't ask me a question" school; and depending how irritated or violated I may feel by the question or the person asking it, I might get extra passive-aggressive and give them an answer the like of which they were never expecting either in detail or content.
That said, I'm also incredibly Canadian. So, depending on my mood, I may simply respond with, "Fine". Anyone with a decent grasp on Canadianisms will understand that this never actually means the person is fine. But, if you value your life and limbs, you won't press the matter unless you enjoy being told to fuck the entire way off. This is very much a "don't violate my dance space" or indicator that you have reached the end of that person's tether and they're done with you word.
Fine is your warning signal. Respect the fine.
