This is a comment from my text message archives I left elsenet I thought I'd make more widely seeable.
It's long past time for the disabled to get a party of their own. We can no longer depend on parties and abled people who claim to care but don't, who only use us as talking points for the electoral cycle then drop us like a hot potato after, and who are too fucking short-sighted to accept or understand that disability is the default, not ability.
Disability is not a moral failing, but how people deal with it sure has been.
Disability is the one condition that will impact almost every human being in some fashion or other. It does not care about your economic status, cultural heritage, religion, gender, nor anything else. If it wants you, it'll come for you.
We need to stop treating it like a side quest, as if you can avoid it if you pretend it doesn't exist. You cannot be made immune to disability by shitting on the disabled either. We need to start building our social and physical infrastructure with disability as the focus. Accessibility and inclusivity hurts no one, but could help us all.
