An email I wrote to the newly minted Revolution Party of Canada.

As you're no doubt aware, the disabled have been getting the shaft in every way imaginable in this nation - to the point where even the UN has slapped us on the wrist for human rights violations.
Very few people speak up for the disabled, despite that a quarter (or more) of the population identifies as having a disability of some kind. Disability is not the side quest people want to think it is. You can't avoid it happening to you by pretending it will never happen to you, and by continuing to see it as invalidating of personhood or as a moral failing. Disability is the least discriminatory condition there is, as it will impact almost every person in some way or other from cradle to grave, whether through birth defect, congenital condition, injury, illness, accident, or age. It doesn't care about economic status, cultural background, skin colour, religious affiliation, gender, sexuality, or anything else. If it wants you, it will come for you.
The financial fight of the disabled aside for the moment, we need to take on a disability as default approach to all aspects of infrastructure - physical, societal, etc. - because of the above, because of how prevalent disability is in society at large. If we design a future that includes the disabled instead of sidelining them, we built something that is not only accessible for them and considerate of them, we build one that's easier for us all.
I ask that you add disability to your platforms. We need someone that will fight for us as something other than an electoral talking point.
