I come from a line of people who’ve spent many years slogging it through mines, mostly coal. It’s dangerous work, and frightening. I don’t think those of us who’ve never been down below truly appreciate it. It’s definitely not for the claustrophobic, and even those with no fear find it intimidating. I had an opportunity to go down into a mine that had been converted into a garden. I passed it up. I’ve heard too many stories, and don’t think I could handle it. Being trapped in a mine is like being out at sea on a ship on fire.
