2025 09 02: This has to be almost 20 years ago now. There never was an Episode #2, that I recall.

I've just experienced my first foray into creative plumbing.

They shut the water off in my building yesterday, and after they turned it back on my toilet keeps running. Either some grit got under the (highly technical language ahead) little rubber thingy at the end of the chain, or said rubber thingy is rotting. They apparently do that. Imagine, something sitting in decades' worth of standing water rotting. Whodathunkit? Jiggling the handle didn't seem to do anything, nor did pulling up the big rubber ball.

So, I was left with a dilemma. How did I solve this dilemma, you ask?

I took the top off the tank, laid an old toothbrush across it under the arm the big rubber ball is on, thus propping up said rubber ball and stopping the running.

It works a treat. I'm smarter than I look, you see.
