I was watching some moralising program of some kind the other day, where they were talking about the achievements of man and how far we've progressed. One of the shining examples of our progression is the ending of the Cold War. While it's nice the silly thing is over, I don't see that it's all that much to be proud of. It should never have happened to begin with, of course, but the fact it's ended shouldn't be lauded as a shining example of man's broading sense of humanity. I think we pat ourselves on the back too much on that front, and ones similar.
