A film supposedly based on the time the Marquis de Sade was in the madhouse. People ascribe all sorts of evils to him, but one point made during the talk after the film, is that while he was in the nuthouse, worse things were done to him than he ever did to anyone himself. His crimes were his thoughts and writings. He did not believe in the innate goodness of man, that man was better than any other animal. Rather, we should spend our time getting as much pleasure out of life as is possible.
All praise to Geoffrey Rush, though, for so boldly taking on the nude scenes.
